About the event
Insect songs –
“Most crickets and katydids don't begin singing until dusk (once the birds go to roost). We will gather at 8:00 for an introduction to the singing insects, then start walking and listening once we begin to hear their first songs of the evening.
Please bring flashlights to find the singers in shrubs, tall grasses, and smaller trees. You will learn how to gently catch one of the singers without damaging their antennae or legs. The antennae are extremely important sensory organs for both males and females.”
